This Day in History:
In 1952, Sinatra screen-tests for From Here to Eternity
A struggling Frank Sinatra agrees to a screen test for a role in From Here to Eternity. The movie will win him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and revive his flagging career.
 
  
*All next week there will be no school due to the Thanksgiving Holiday Break. We will return on Monday, November 30, 2009.
 
  
*The Elks National will be offering a Free Throw “Hoop Shoot” Contest at Lee Middle School on December 5, 2009 for all boys and girls ages 8-13.
 
  
*Hey Douglass Art Lovers.  New A+ art exhibits are up all over the school.  Check out the multipurpose room for big impressive charcoal drawings, pencil drawings of paper bags and some fun colorful optical art. Then head to library to see some amazing teacher portraits and curious surrealist landscapes.  Finally, don't forget to go over to the student store to see some great drawings of yorkie dogs drawn especially to keep Mrs. Bailey smiling while she works.

This Day in History:
On this day in 1831, future President James A. Garfield is born to an impoverished family near Cleveland, Ohio. He weighed a whopping 10 pounds at birth, was a voracious reader and, as a young boy, worked driving the teams of horses that pulled barges along canals.
 
  
*Cooking club will be today Thursday, Nov. 19th.  We will be making a Thanksgiving feast.  If you have a permission slip already turned in please join us in the teacher workroom from 3-5 pm.  Hope to see you there.

This Day in History:
In 1928, Cartoon star Mickey Mouse appears in Steamboat Willie, an animated short produced by Walt Disney. Steamboat Willie was the first fully synchronized sound cartoon ever produced, with Mickey's squeaky voice provided by Walt Disney himself.
 
  *8th grade girl's basketball meeting will be today Wednesday Nov. 18 Room C-6 at 2:50pm. If you are interested in trying out you need to turn in your completed athletic packet to Mrs. Bailey in the student store.  To be eligible to tryout you need to have a 2.0 grade point average and no F's.

*Attention ladies!!! UC Davis is going to host their 14th annual Chicana Conference Friday, November 20th. Ms. Lozano will be taking a group of girls over to UC Davis on an all day field trip. You will have an opportunity to tour the campus and go to workshops that specifically target issues young ladies face today. If you are interested in attending please come see M.S Lozano in the counseling office for a permission slip, they are due November 16th.
  
 
*Students if you did not receive your report card last Friday, your 7th period teacher have your report card. PLEASE wait until your 7th period to get your report card, DO NOT go during passing period or your lunch time.
