Hello 8th grade families,

Thursday is an exciting day for our 8th graders!  The school-wide awards assembly will be held in the morning in the gym. Please check our DMS website to see the list of Presidential Award winners. This list has been posted on the office windows for students to check, as well.  Parents of all other award recipients have been contacted.

After the assembly, 7th graders will return to their classes and 8th graders will practice for the promotion ceremony.  After lunch, 8th graders will be treated to root beer float party before they get ready to line up for the ceremony.  Parents of 8th graders that also have a 7th grader should call the office so that a pass can be ready and sent  to their class to excuse them to go to Promotion.

Promotion will begin at 1:00 pm in the North Gym.  In order for all guests to enjoy the promotion ceremony we ask that anything that can obstruct the view for others such as balloons and picture posters, and anything loud like air horns be left out of the gym.  Flowers may be brought inside.

Many students like to dress up for this special occasion. Because promotion will be during the school day and we have a full day of activities  for our 8th graders, they should come to school ready since there will not be time for them to go home and change.

Dress code rules will be enforced during the school day (bare shoulders, shorts and skirts at mid-thigh, leggings worn under appropriate length skirts and shorts, etc). Many of our young ladies have asked if they can wear something to cover bare shoulders during the day and then remove their outer layer for promotion. That is a great question and is absolutely okay.  I appreciate that our students are asking :)

Thank you for a wonderful year!

Mrs. Morel

We had a great informational/registration meeting February about the East Coast Trip to Washington DC, Gettysburg and Philadelphia in 2018.  I wanted to reiterate two important topics from the meeting:

1. Most importantly, don't forget to register for the trip

You only pay a deposit of $49 (regular deposit price is $150.) till June 1st to sign up. Your Trip ID # 145128.  There are two easy ways to register:
ONLINE: at www.worldstrides.org & using the Trip ID # listed above,
PHONE:  by calling the Customer Service Team at 1-800-468-5899
2. There are many options for individual travel funding, including the Gift of Education program, which includes Gift of Education E-Cards and Facebook links. Additionally, over $1 million is given each year in financial assistance through the FLAG program! You can find detailed information about Gift of Education and FLAG scholarships  at www.worldstridesfundraising.com.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the trip & I look forward to leading a fun and educational program for our students!

Note: We currently have 10 spots left to register. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate ask?

All the best,

Scott Woolf, Teacher / Program Leader
