Boys Soccer Information
Douglass Boys Soccer has had a successful program in the last few years, winning championships in 3 of the last 4 years (2006, 2008, 2009), but more importantly, developing more players for a possible future in the high school programs. Last year every athlete on the team who wanted to continue playing, after the season ended, was picked up by a club team.
Tryouts for boys soccer will begin in early February. Students must have a 2.0 GPA and no F's (Only the grades from the end of the 1st semester (3rd report card) in December will be looked at for elligibility). An athletic packet must also be completed, including a physical from a doctor. Douglass will sponsor an evening (to be announced) before the season starts whereby students can get a physical done on a drop-in basis ( a date has not been deteermined yet). An informational meeting will also be held after school in late November.
The soccer team is comprised of both 7th and 8th graders and is selected based on several aspects. Experience is not necessary, but helpful (some of the best players in the past have been those who have never played the game before, but worked hard). Cleats and shinguards are not necessary to try out- but are required for those who make the team. Tryouts usually last 3-4 days, depending on the amount of students who participate. Last year, 74 boys showed up on the field, and 19 were selected.
The first 10 games are regular season games (5 home and 5 away) against the following schools: Lee Middle School, Esparto Middle School, Winters Middle School, C.A. Jacobs Middle School (Dixon), Harper Middle School (Davis), Emerson Middle School (Davis), and Holmes Middle School (Davis). Afterwards, all teams participate in a single-elimination playoff format, which will be held at the Woodland Community Center this year.
Feel free to contact Mr. Tomsett (room A-10) for more details.
